Hi, I'm Rachel!
Mental health challenges have completely changed the trajectory of my life. It all started when I lost two uncles to suicide within a relatively short amount of time. I was devastated by their loss and I deeply miss them. Since then, I have experienced an array of mental health challenges with myself and my children. It has been the most difficult trial to go through as a family.
We continue to learn daily from our experiences.
1. There are so many mental health challenges and they're all closely related.
2. It is beneficial - and I'd say essential - to seek professional care.
3. A variety of care options are available: medication, psychiatrists, therapists, in-patient facilities, out-patient treatment centers, counselors, neurofeedback, etc. What works for one doesn't work for another. Unfortunately it is a trial and error journey for each person.
4. You can't always get the care you immediately need and you often feel defeated and isolated.
5. Knowing there are others out there experiencing similar mental health challenges can give strength until you can get the professional care you need.
6. Preventative care is so much more effective than treatment during crisis.
These are the main reasons I started Mind of Worth.
I was in an isolated darkness of uncertainty. My husband and I were trying every source possible to help our children and nothing was working. We felt completely alone and terrified. I had constant sleepless nights with a massive headache and knots in my stomach. How could I save my kids?! I turned to my Heavenly Father. My pillow was soaked with tear-filled prayers to know what I could do. Thoughts flooded my mind every morning. Things I needed to say, words I needed to write down, impressions to reach out to someone. Mind of Worth was eventually formed. I am a mother that loves her children fiercely and I will do whatever it takes to help them KNOW that they are loved and are not the only ones with mental health challenges. It is ok to embrace our challenges and create a support system to come off conquerer. You don't have to share your specific challenges with our community but we plead with you to help us bring the conversation to light! Let's create a loving support system together! Every person in this world needs to know that they are loved and that they have a mind of worth. Let's be proactive with our mental health: physical, social, spiritual, mental. YOU ARE WORTH IT!
Two of the most important things I've learned on my journey:
1. Mental health struggles are one of the most difficult battles we will ever face
2. It’s impossible to fight mental health challenges alone
You have infinite worth, and there are people in your life who need your help.
There’s a huge list of things that can affect our mental health, and a weakened mental state can be expressed through OCD & Anxiety Disorders, Bipolarity, Depression, Suicidal Thoughts, PTSD, Perfectionism, Schizophrenia, Eating Disorders, Disruptive Behavior, Dis-social disorders, and in so many other ways!
While those all sound scary - and they are - there are tons of resources and many professionals that can help. And while I believe there are some holes in the care system, my vision is to help everyone get the care and support they need. I want everyone - and you in particular - to know that you have a Mind Of Worth.
You might be struggling right now, and that’s okay. Everyone struggles. Everyone needs help.
If we can allow ourselves to understand and believe that, we can focus on helping others through their challenges. That’s what I’m doing. I’m helping others because I love everyone. I also know that helping others will help me and my loved ones. Please join our community and help however you can.
What our team is doing & how you can help.
We are a team of parents and professionals that want to help children, youth, and adults learn how to talk openly about their mental health - both the good and the not-so-good. In most school districts across the nation, there is a gap in the dialogue offered to students surrounding their mental health. While there has been a wonderful, increased push to help kids in crisis, we need to empower these youth to learn to work on building their mental strength during the times when they feel strong, so they are more prepared for the struggles that will inevitably face them and their loved ones.
We partner with school districts, counselors, therapists, and more, to help provide safe spaces for kids to talk; and, we want to normalize these conversations out in the open.
So, join us in helping youth and adults everywhere. We love you, we need you, and we believe in you.
You have a Mind Of Worth.
